Roland L. Nelson, 80, of Stillman Valley (formerly of Rockford) passed away Thursday November 5, 2020 with family by his side. Roland was born Alma Township, Jackson County, WI on April 24, 1940, the son of George and Florence (Falk) Nelson. He married Barbara Jean Allen on September 30, 1961 and she preceded him in death on February 4, 2009. Roland then married Lonna Schoenrock on May 10, 2011. Roland was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs; he loved being outdoors fishing, traveling and going to the casino. Roland had a dry sense of humor and was quit the jokester. He gave Lonna 10 loving years together.
Survivors include his wife Lonna; son Lonnie Nelson (Gina); daughter Wendy (Matthew) Chingren; granddaughters: Mataya Chingren,Casey (Taylor) Clemens, Sabrina (Cody) Gentry and Ciarra Nelson (Burke); great-grandchild Monte Gentry; sisters: Emma Jean (Roger) Sjostrom and Lilah (Frank) Torgerson
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Barbara, son Dean Nelson
Memorials are suggested to Congregational Christian Church (Red Brick Church) in Stillman Valley, Serenity Hospice and Stillman Fire Department.
Public walk through visitation for Roland will be from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on Wednesday November 11, 2020 at Advantage Funeral Home 7000 West State Street in Rockford; followed by a Private family service to celebrate Roland’s life at 12:00 pm with Dr. Pastor Chris Brauns officiating. Burial will be in Willwood Burial Park.
