Roy Lee McAlister, Sr., 73, of Rockford, IL, passed away peacefully, Friday morning, January 17, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 26, 1946 in Sheffield, AL, the son of Henry and Elsie (Fisher) McAlister. Roy came to Illinois with his family when he was nine years old. He then graduated from high school in 1964 and married his sweetheart, Carol Conti on September 26, 1964 in Rockford, the fall following graduation. Roy retired from Gleason Cutting Tools after many years of employment. He had a knack for woodworking, whittling, gardening, and being outdoors. He was known by the neighborhood children as the man to go to when things needed to be fixed. Most of all, Roy was a family man, who was proud of his family.
Roy is loved and missed by his wife of 53 years, Carol; children, Roy McAlister, Jr., and Sharon (Harold) Butcher; grandchildren, Dakota Butcher and Craig Bartman; and one brother, Blake (Barb) McAlister. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Bill and Sherry.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Lincolnwood Baptist Church, 705 Springfield Ave, Rockford, IL 61101.
