Ruth L. Winter, 94, of Rockford IL passed away May 6, 2021. She was born on June 2, 1926 in Lancaster PA to William and Anna Kanode. On November 26, 1948 she married the love of her life, Frank Winter, and they shared nearly 41 years together before his passing in 1989. They worked together serving the Rockford community at the Navy Club always providing cold drinks and good conversation. Ruth was a devoted Christian and a long-time member of Dominion Christian Center of Rockford. She was a talented artist, and enjoyed spending her time doing jigsaw puzzles and listening to gospel music. Ruth was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother to 3 generations. Her love was always apparent to those around her. She would love to read her grandchildren stories, or take them to school, and would not hesitate to play dolls, and get down on their level. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her 4 daughters; Sandy (Dave) Strommer, Doreen (Larry) Hendrickson, Mechelle Funk of Melborne FL, and Roxie (Kelly) Smith, her siblings; John Kanode of Houma LA, Isaac and Earl Kanode of Elizabethtown PA, and Mary (James) Hostetter of Bedford PA. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her husband, parents, and siblings; Amos Kanode, Irvin Kanode, Esther Kauffman, Anna Beaver, and Barbara Galebach.
