

Allen was born July 28. 1933 in Canton, the son of Dexter and Doris (Holland). At an early age he moved to the Mexico area where he was educated and graduated from Mexico High School.
Mr. Gurney was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He served in "A" Battery, 22nd Armored Field Artillery Battalion, 4th Armored Division. He retired in 1995 from Boise Cascade Paper Group, Plant Security, in Rumford.
He was an avid reader, enjoyed his daily walks with his dog Winston, hunting deer, and tending the flowers around his home. He also enjoyed his collection of Native American memorabilia. In his retirement years his greatest joy of all was spending time at his camp "Lost Goose" where he took meticulous care of his lawns and gardens, fed the local deer herd, read his newspaper on the porch while smoking his corn cob pipe, and spending time chatting with his many friends and neighbors.
Mr. Gurney was member of St. Athanasius-St. John's Parish; the American Legion Post#24; Knights of Columbus Council 2091; Webb River Valley Sportsman Club; River Valley ATV Club; 25- and 40-year Boise Cascade Service, Encampment #69, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War War.
On July 4, 1955, he married the former Gisele Theriault in Rumford. They raised two sons, Wayne of Fryeburg and Dayl and wife Susan of Norway, and one daughter Kathleen Higgins and husband Steve of Windham. He also has 4 grandchildren, Chad, Demarie, Justine and Brian and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and three brothers Dwight, Robert and Calvin.
