Fernand "Fern" Dumoulin
August 28, 1934 – March 24, 2018
LEWISTON – Fernand “Fern” Dumoulin, 83, formerly of Knox St in Rumford, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on Saturday, March 24 at CMMC in Lewiston with his loving family at his side. He was born in Rumford on August 28, 1934, a son of Armand and Marie Rose (Gaudreau) Dumoulin. Fern was educated in the Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1953. He married the love of his life, Elizabeth “Betty” Perry on August 7, 1954. He credited his father Armand for picking out the best thing that ever happened to him by making him take her to a movie she wanted to see. Together from then on, they celebrated 63 years of marriage and raised four children. Fern was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was very proud of his family and credits his wife for “doing a great job.” He retired from a lifetime career in the pulp and paper industry in the Rumford mill and consulting. He loved sports, the outdoors and being in the woods all of his life. He enjoyed snowmobiling, 4 wheeling and grooming the trails with the Polar Bear Snowmobile Club. Fern liked camping with his family in the summers at Littlefield Beaches and travelling; taking the trip of a lifetime with Betty to Alaska in his RV that he fondly reminisced over. Anyone who came in contact with Fern knew he loved his hometown, always very proud to say he was from Rumford. Fern was a lifelong communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior in Rumford as well as a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors are his children, Barbara J. Eiselstein of Reynoldsburg, OH, Peter J. Dumoulin and wife Deborah of Biddeford, Sara A. McGlauflin and husband Warren of Poland, and Paul A. Dumoulin and wife Melissa of Manchester; a sister, Jeanne Terzi and husband Charles of West Springfield, MA.; ten grandchildren, Nicholas and wife Sarah, Emily and husband Zachary, John, Brian, Katherine, Hunter, Annie, Maggie, Joseph and Nathan; three great-grandchildren, Prescott, Charles and Leo and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Betty; his parents; a son-in-law, Stephen Eiselstein; a sister, Claudette Fraser, two brothers, Jacques “Jocko” and John Dumoulin and a great-niece, Samantha Fraser. The Dumoulin children would like to express sincere gratitude to the staff at Montello Heights, Schooner Estates, Woodlands and Clover Manor for the care of their parents while living in the L/A area. In addition, sincere thanks to the entire staff at CMMC, especially the Y3/SSU staff for the compassionate, loving care shown to our Dad in his last days with us.
