He was born in Rumford on December 17, 1947, the son of Leon and Lucille “Tullos” Butler. He grew up in Rumford and attended Rumford schools.
He worked briefly as a dishwasher at the Chicken Coop in Mexico. He served in the Marine Corps from February 26, 1968 to July 25, 1968. He was a longtime member of the American Legion post 24 and of the Beacon House Social Club/Peer Center. Gayle enjoyed walking and being outdoors. He had a talent for singing and poem writing. He will be sadly missed by his “Island family.”
He is survived by a sister, Cheryl Getchell and her husband Russell of Auburn, and a brother Leonard Butler of Zanesville, Ohio.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Willie Butler and Ralph Butler.
