George Raymond Viger

May 30, 1934November 6, 2018

George Raymond Viger, 84, began a new journey on November 6, 2018 with his family by his side. He was the oldest of nine children born to George and Aldine Richards Viger on May 30, 1934. He was married on November 11, 1953 to the late Lucille Vachon who began her new journey on November 11, 1978 on their 25th wedding anniversary. He later married Shirley Sanborn on February 13, 1999 who survives in Rumford. George was loved by many and involved in many things to be with his children. He ran the skating rink in Virginia for many years and made many friends. He umpired many baseball games and would whisper in one's ear to be sure not to call him “Dad” or “Uncle” - lol. The last whistle blown at the State football game was in his honor. George put many smiles and lots of love in many hearts with his tributes on Facebook as he had many followers. Memories are forever Dad!! – “Eat your desert first cause you may not have room for it after you eat your meal”! Surviving are his two daughters, Rose Marie Woods and husband Timothy of Mexico, ME, Pamela Bentley and companion Jeffrey Williams of Mexico, ME and one son (his best friend) Gregory and wife, Barbara of Mexico, ME. Step-children Linda Frith, Melody Coulombe, Lisa and Michelle Sanborn, and Rick Hebert. Four sisters Gloria Barnett, Penny Gotto, Nancy Norris and Geri Viger. George leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. George is predeceased by his parents, brothers, Bernard (Smokey), Norman, Wilfred (Billy) and sister, Marie Kelley, his son-in-laws, Billy Bentley and Vito Coulombe, step-son Bruce Hebert, and grandson Daniel Woods. In lieu of flowers please send donations in George’s memory to the Hope Association 85 Lincoln Avenue Rumford, ME 04276.

Every morning I would get up to see what our mischievous neighbor was up to. Many times he just teased someone. I think that he may have had our names in a hat...
He also showed a tremendous amount of compassion for those families that lost loved ones. He did it in such a way that the family would feel special, and that their loved one was respected.
George loved his wife...he said it often. He also loved his friends, and mentioned them often too.
A good man.
You will be missed.

I never had the opportunity to meet George in person but we were friends on Facebook. He reached out to me when my father passed away and he created a lovely photographic memorial for him. It truly touched my heart. I could not believe that a stranger could do something so thoughtful for a grieving family.
My sincerest condolences to his family, My heart is with you.

I have so many fond memories of George while we waited for our kids in gymnastics class at the GRCC. He sat there like a King in the middle of many women yet he fit right in sharing homemaking and parenting secrets. We laughed together and cried together. He will live on in my heart- that's a fact - although my heart is sad right now. Fly free, Pepe!

Hugs to Rose Marie, Whitney and the entire family at this difficult time.
