

James E. Burns, 53, of Mexico, Maine, passed away at home on July 8, 2025 after a lengthy illness. Born in Dorchester and raised in Quincy and Brockton, he was the beloved son of Virginia M. (Carney) Burns of Brockton and the late Robert J. Burns Jr. He graduated from Southeastern Regional Vo-Tech High School in Easton in 1989 and attended Massasoit Community College. Jimmy, known as Jimbo to his family, was a member of Teamsters Union Local 25, working as a high lift operator then as a machinist at U.S. Foods.
Jimmy was dedicated to his children and their activities; he enjoyed volunteer work as a delivery driver for food pantries, distributing refurbished bicycles for children and donating helmets and locks with each one, helped with Boy Scout troops and was an assistant softball coach. Jimmy was proud of his Irish heritage, loved baseball, politics, and animals, and in younger years he was an avid bicyclist and weightlifter. He resided in Norway, Maine prior to making Mexico, Maine his home. He is survived by his mother Virginia and was the loving father of Shianne Burns, James Burns, Sean Burns and Jayden Burns; grandfather of Ja’leo, Jalissa, Jeremiah, Rakiah and Nolan; longtime partner of Jennifer Clark and the late Judy Mohan; he also leaves aunts, uncles, and cousins.
All are welcome to calling hours Thursday July 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton, his funeral Friday July 18 at 9:30 a.m. from Waitt Funeral Home, funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King Parish in Brockton and burial at Calvary Cemetery in Brockton. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to your favorite animal charity.
