

Joan was born on June 1, 1934, in Brooklyn, New York, to Ronald and Laura Ellis. She grew up in Brooklyn alongside her siblings, Ronald Ellis, Arthur Ellis, and Laura Jean Ellis.
On April 30, 1960, Joan married the love of her life, James Dunckley, in Brooklyn, New York. Together they built a life centered on family, love, and lasting memories.
Joan graduated from New York City schools and began her working career as a bank teller at Williamsburg Savings Bank in Brooklyn.
Later in life, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Rumford Hospital, where she cared for others with the same compassion and kindness she showed throughout her life.
Joan found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved bowling, gardening, oil painting, and spending summers at camp with family and friends. She was known for her warm smile, caring nature, and devotion to those she loved.
Joan is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Lynne and Mark Deraspe, Joan and Michael Barre, and Barbara and Brian Remeika. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Ashley Hauser, Luke Hauser, Anthony Vitale, Hollie Vitale, Jeremy Remeika, Jordan Barre, and Victoria Barre; and her beloved great-grandchildren: Boone Hauser, Reid Vitale, and Jemma Vitale. She is also survived by her beloved pet, Chip.
Joan was predeceased by her husband, James Dunckley; her brother, Arthur Ellis; and her sister, Laura Jean Ellis.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and CNAs of Andwell Hospice for their compassionate care and support. They would also like to offer a special thank you to Norma Arsenault for the many laughs, friendship, and loving care she shared with Joan throughout the years.
Joan will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Joan's visitation will be on Wednesday, July 1st from 5-7PM at Thibault Remembrance Center, 250 Penobscot St, Rumford. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 2nd, at 11AM at Holy Savior, 126 Maine Avenue, Rumford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
