

CANTON- Joseph Francis Waterhouse, 67, passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 in Canton following a long illness. Joey took great pride in his family and his home in Canton. His best days were when kids and grandkids were around.
Joseph was born in Lewiston, Maine on September 26, 1957, welcomed by parents Sue and Richard Waterhouse. He graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1976. He then spent 4 years in the US Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS America.
Joseph and Kari (Knox) married on February 14, 1981, at St. Barnabus Episcopal Church in Rumford. They raised their family in Rumford.
Joseph worked in the Rumford Paper Mill as a kiln tender. He retired from New Page in 2014 due to ill health. Joey loved outdoor activities. The highlight of his hunting adventures was when he shot his moose.
Joseph is survived by his wife Kari, of Canton; his children Joshua Waterhouse and his wife Emily of Epping, NH, Jill Smith and Alex of Portland, Maine, Heidi Brennick and Chris of Rumford; three beloved grandchildren Fletcher and Addie Smith and Ethan Waterhouse; and his siblings Richard (David) Waterhouse, Alice (Lisa) Reid and Robert and Betty Waterhouse.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents Richard and Sue Waterhouse; stepmother Louise Waterhouse; and a nephew Cory Bouthot.
A heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at the Rumford VA who gave us so much support. Thank you also to the staff at Togus and at the Pinnacle Health and Rehab.
Graveside Services honoring Joseph’s life will be celebrated on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Demerritt Cemetery in Peru with Reverend Cindy Dawson officiating. A reception will follow at 49 Franklin Street in Rumford. At the request of the family there will not be any visitation.
