Rumford, ME - Mark Steven McCollough, 66, passed away unexpectedly on September 22, 2025, in Rumford, Maine, the town where he was born and spent much of his life. Born on March 16, 1959, in Rumford to Patricia and Raymond McCollough, Mark remained deeply connected to his roots throughout his life.
A proud graduate of Rumford High School’s Class of 1977, Mark carried the values of hard work and loyalty into every chapter of his life. He dedicated over a decade of service to Sunday River, where he became a familiar and respected presence. Known for his unwavering dedication and strong work ethic, Mark earned the admiration of both coworkers and guests alike. His contributions were recognized on numerous occasions, a testament to the pride he took in his work and the positive impact he had on those around him.
Mark’s life was guided by a fierce love for his family. He found immense joy in being a father to his daughter Summer Currie and took great pride in her journey through life. His bond with his son-in-law Gage Currie was one of mutual respect and warmth. Nothing brought Mark more happiness than spending time with his granddaughters, Charlotte and Penelope. Their laughter and energy were constant sources of light in his life.
He also shared close ties with his siblings Kelly O’Neil and Todd McCollough, as well as with his nieces Kenzie Soule and Delaney Macdonald, nephew Christian McCollough and his strong line of 1st cousins. These relationships were central to Mark’s world—he cherished every moment spent with them.
Mark had a deep appreciation for music and was especially passionate about live concerts. Whether it was the thrill of seeing a favorite band or discovering new sounds, music was a lifelong companion that brought him joy and connection. He was an avid sports fan who followed hockey and football with enthusiasm, often engaging in spirited conversations about games and teams like the Boston Bruins and the LA Rams.
His love for the outdoors led him to frequent camping trips and countless swims at Old Orchard Beach and Howard Pond—places that held special meaning for him throughout the years. These simple pleasures reflected Mark’s grounded nature and love for Maine’s natural beauty.
Those who knew Mark will remember him not only for his passions but also for his gift of conversation. He had an easy way with people—always ready to share a story or lend an ear—and this made him someone others naturally gravitated toward.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Patricia and Raymond McCollough. While their absence was deeply felt throughout his life, their memory lived on through the values they instilled in him: resilience, kindness, and devotion to family.
May Mark Steven McCollough’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the love he gave so freely—and through every song played loud enough to dance to or game watched with heart.
There will be a celebration of life for Mark and will be announced at a later time.
