Mason was born on March 23, 2010 in Portland, Maine to his parents Amber and Dominik Gerding.
Mason spent most or his life in Rumford, Maine where he discovered his love for the outdoors. Whether it was creating a structure, using his furnace fire pit he made or just wandering through nature and finding the beauty in it, (and of course cool rocks) he always seemed to have a profound love of the world around him. Mason strived to make it even more spectacular by planting gardens inside and out.
Mason would create the most unique and beautiful crafts out of anything he found interesting. Beads, yarn, wood, or flowers; the earth was his canvas and he made beauty where others couldn't see the potential.
Mason’s sense of humor was as rare and amazing as his other attributes. He found joy in jump scaring his Mom, or even the cats whenever possible, teasing people for driving anything other than a Chevy, or his off handed jokes that sometimes burned a little. Not everybody got his humor, but for those of us who did, it was always a wondrous thing to experience.
Mason is survived by his Mother and Step-Father, Amber Gerding and Victor Hilton, his Father and Step-Mother, Dominik and Kaylee Gerding, his brothers, Hunter and Logan Gerding, his sisters, Katalina, Valerie and Elena Lima, his maternal grandmother, Sharon Leighton, and his paternal grandparents, Connie Shaw and William Gerding. He also left behind many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including his best friend and cousin, Kristian.
Mason was predeceased by his grandfather Paul 'Papa' Leighton.
