Farmington - Osie E. Every, age 79, of Rumford, passed away Wednesday evening November 16th at the Edgewood Rehab and Living Center with family at her side. She was born in Rochester, NY on July 14, 1943, one of four children born to William R. and Clara H. (Porter) Carey. She grew up in Rochester, NY and was educated in Rochester catholic schools. As a teenager, Osie was a "Navy Brat" stationed in VA and then her family moved to NY after the Korean War.
On August 17, 1969 Osie married her soulmate, Herbert Every Sr. who predeceased her in 1997. She raised her family with Herbert in Webster's Crossing, NY until 1985 when they moved to Florida. After a number of years living in Florida and after her husband's death in 1997, she briefly lived in Arizona with her brother Joe and then Osie relocated back to Maine in 1998 and settled in Mexico.
Upon returning to Maine, she worked two years in the kitchen at Rumford Hospital, two years at the Hope Association in Rumford and several years in local convenience stores, including 10 years for the Big Apple Convenience Stores, serving as retail clerk and later as store Manager until her retirement. In her years with Big Apple, Osie got to know and become friends with many of her customers as they would see her and chat with her almost daily. As a real "people-person," she especially enjoyed those years of getting to know her customers. Unfortunately, It was the Parkinson's Disease that forced her to stop driving, which eventually forced her into retirement. Osie was a devout and faithful Catholic and among her favorite enjoyments were reading romance novels, making Christmas cookies and fun and special times with her family. Having grown up in New York, Osie was also a huge and avid fan of the Buffalo Bills of the NFL and she would watch all their games during the season whenever she could.
