RUMFORD Patrice Alfred Roy, 78, of Rumford, ME passed away at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, ME on January 24, 2021 surrounded by his loving wife and children.
He was born in Rumford, ME on November 25, 1942 and was a graduate of Stephens High School (Rumford) in 1960. After graduating, he enlisted in the US Navy, serving three years. He was married to his wife Diane on January 27, 1968. He worked for more than 33 years as a letter carrier at the United States Postal Service, logging thousands of miles on foot delivering mail in all the seasons Maine had to offer. Pat loved living in western Maine and was a lifetime member of the Rumford Elks, Eagles, American Legion, Snowshoe Club and National Association of Letter Carriers.
He had a passion for cooking and was known around town for his “world-famous” meatballs. In retirement, he loved playing golf, cribbage, poker, bumper pool, swimming at Howard Pond and spending time with family and friends. One of the many highlights of his life was meeting and talking to golf legend Jack Nicklas once at a fundraising event. A picture of the moment still hangs in the family living room next to pictures of his children and grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents Maurice and Yvette Roy (Rumford, ME), sister Pauline Knoder (Missouri); and Nicole Merrill (Bethel, ME).
He is survived by his beloved wife Diane, son Mike Roy (Jill Satalin), grandchildren Patrick and Madeleine of Syracuse, NY; son Scott Roy (Omayra) and grandchildren Joanne and Johnpaul of Hollywood, FL; Kevin Roy (Tina Radcliffe) of Lewiston, ME; brother Maurice Roy of Rumford, ME; brother Denis Roy of Bethel, CT and several friends of his sons who thought of him as a second father.
The family held a small private funeral service on Jan. 29, 2021 at St. Athanasius / St. John Catholic Church in Rumford, ME. The family intends to hold a graveside service and celebration of life in the coming months, as soon as health conditions allow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to: The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, 1095 NW 14th Terrace, Miami, Florida 33136, or at www.TheBuonicontiFund.com/Roy

For Diane and the family, my deepest sympathies. I feel that I was blessed to have gotten to know Pat and see 1st hand his kindness when you both took me and my cat in for a few months until my place of residence was ready. He was an exceptional neighbor and was always there to lend a hand, snowblow a driveway or cook a meal to share next door. He had a quick wit, great sense of humor, a smile that made you smile and a caring heart. He once said that it was like having a daughter with him living there and with his big heart, I felt like I had a dad watching over me too. And it warmed my heart. I hold very fond memories of the meat pies, watching jeapody, my cat following Pat around the house, and how welcomed I felt. I will miss the banter we engaged in when I called the house to speak to Diane. May you Rest in Peace Pat. I pray Diane, that you and the family can find comfort in your cherished memories of a man who will be truly missed by many.
