

RUMFORD- Patricia Macomber Sargent, 90, was born January 11, 1936, at 9 Mill Street, Dixfield, Maine, the daughter of Floyd P. Sr. and Bernice G. (Frost) Macomber and has lived in Dixfield all her life. She passed away at Rumford Hospital on June 3, 2026.
Patricia attended Dixfield Public Schools and graduated from Dixfield High School, Class of 1954. She married Verdell E. Sargent, the love of her life, on June 4, 1976. They were together for 32 years, until his death on March 25, 2008.
Patricia was employed by Stowell-MacGregor Division of Coats & Clark Inc. in the Dixfield Office as Administrative Assistant for 26 years; Stowell Wood Products as Administrative Assistant for 3 years; Secretary/Bookkeeper for Peru School District for 7 years; and Secretary/Payroll Clerk for SAD #21 from 1990 until her retirement June 30, 1998.
“Pat” was an accomplished organ and piano accompanist. She took private piano and organ lessons from Sarah M. DuPaul and Nathal R. Weston and gave lessons to herself for many years. Pat served as Choir accompanist and organist at the Dixfield Congregational Church for many years. She was accompanist for several musical productions at the Dixfield Summer Theatre, a musical show on WRUM, Mexico High School productions and many RAAPA productions.
She was a member of the Dixfield Congregational Church, a member of the old Hope Social Club Group, and a Lifetime member of the Dixfield Historical Society.
She is survived by a stepdaughter Roxanne Lee Jenkins and her husband David of Rumford, two step-grandsons, D. Alan Jenkins and Jory Lee Jenkins; Verdell's stepson John Merchant, his children and grandchildren as well as 3 step great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Verdell Sargent, both parents, sisters Ruth Haynes and Blandine Macomber, brothers Floyd “Sonny” P. Macomber Jr., and Mark B. Macomber.
Patricia’s graveside service will be held on Saturday June 20, 2026, at 11AM at Dickvale Cemetery on Mineral Springs Road, Peru. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
