Raymond A. Vaillancourt, 76, passed away unexpectedly at home on May 22, 2026. Born in Rumford, Maine, on January 1, 1950, he was the son of William and Edith (Kerr) Vaillancourt. Ray grew up in the neighboring town of Mexico, where he attended school and formed the early friendships and values that stayed with him throughout his life.
After graduating from high school, Ray served in the United States Air Force, where he learned construction and many practical skills. Following his service, he worked in various janitorial positions, always taking pride in doing a job well and caring for the spaces around him. He later worked for the Town of Rumford, a role he dedicated himself to until his retirement.
Throughout his life, Ray enjoyed woodworking, listening to his music, and watching his classic shows from earlier years. He took great pride in keeping his home and lawn looking their best — a home lovingly passed down to him by his parents, and one he cared for with devotion. He cherished his visits back to New York, where he spent time with his daughter and his son-in-law, John, who affectionately called him “Papi,” and whom Ray fondly called “John Boy.” Some of his happiest moments were with his grandchildren and great-granddaughters, who knew him as Grandpa Ray and brought him endless joy.
Ray was blessed with many family members and friends in both Maine and New York, each of whom held a special place in his life. He formed lasting relationships wherever he went, and those who knew him will remember his warmth, his quiet humor, and the steady, gentle way he showed he cared.
He was a very devoted father to his daughter, Samantha, and spent a lot of time with her as she grew up, making memories that she will cherish forever. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Dingman, and her husband, John; his stepson, Kirk Vaillancourt, and his wife, Cindi; and his six grandchildren: Austin Dingman and his wife, Jenna, Emily Dingman, Zachary Vaillancourt and his wife, Maria, Alicia Vaillancourt, Jenna Weaver, and Brooke Weaver. He is also survived by his five great‐granddaughters: Savannah, Aubriella, and Olivia Dingman, and Everly and Arabella Vaillancourt.
Ray is predeceased by his brother, Sonny Vaillancourt; his sister, Judith Palmer (Vaillancourt); his parents, William and Edith Vaillancourt; and his stepdaughter, Paula Vaillancourt.
