Sarjit Singh Dhaliwal was born in Toosa, India, into a life that asked much of him from the very start. Having lost both his parents at a young age, he was raised by his sister and grandmother, whose love and strength shaped the man he would become. Through his early years were marked by hardship, he met them with a quiet determination and an abiding faith that would carry him through the rest of his life.
A devoted man of God, Sarjit Singh Dhaliwal lived by the teachings of the Sikh faith, holding Waheguru in his heart through every season. His faith was the foundation of his patience, his humility, and his deep sense of service to others.
That same spirit carried him far. He earned his PhD in Urban Planning, a testament to his intellect, discipline, and refusal to let difficult beginnings limit his future. He married Bhupinder Dhaliwal, who preceded him in passing, and together they raised two children in a home grounded in love, faith, and hope.
Seeking greater opportunity for those he loved, Sarjit Singh Dhaliwal brought his family to the United States and made a home in Davis, California. There, he dedicated his career to public service as a city planner, helping to shape communities and improve the places people call home. As a planner, he built more than buildings; he built a true home for his family in Davis, a place rooted in love and belonging. He never sought recognition for his contributions; it was simply the kind of man he was.
He is survived by his two sons, Harpreet Singh Dhaliwal and Ishar Singh Dhaliwal; his daughter-in-law, Gale Dhaliwal, wife of Harpreet Singh Dhaliwal; and his grandchildren, Simrin Dhaliwal and Kovi Dhaliwal. He now rests in the company of his beloved wife, Bhupinder Kaur Dhaliwal, reunited in the peace of Waheguru. He leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, devotion to family and faith, and quiet service to others.
