

Donald Lee Mayfield was born on March 12, 1933 to Leo Edward Mayfield & Irene Barkdull in Farmington, Utah. His father died in an avalanche while working for the Forest Service, surveying the snow levels in Farmington Canyon when Don was only five years old and his sister LaRene was two.
His mother married Jack I Olsen when Don was fourteen years old.
Donald enjoyed and excelled in High School. He was a triple letterman playing football, basketball & baseball. He was Junior Class President. In 1952 he was awarded Davis High School's "Standout Athlete Performer" Award. He was elected President of the D-Men's Club - An honorary club of Achieving young men". He was also President of his High School Seminary Class. Don graduated from Davis High School on June 3rd, 1952. After High School Don attended Weber State College while working for the Forestry Service. It was during this time that his entire class was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. Don's Forest Service Supervisor Harry Pledger successfully petitioned the Army to defer his Draft for three months. Don began his service in the Army on September 24th, 1953 in Company B, 4th Engineer battalion " Combat" Division. During his basic training, Don completed the Engineer's Leadership course and impressed a number of his commanding officers. On their recommendation he was sent to Germany instead of Korea. Don served his country honorably for two years and was Discharged from active duty on September 13th, 1955. Don remained a member of the Army Reserve until he was honorably discharged on September 11th, 1961. Don returned to Weber State College after his service in Germany where he received a Certificate of Completion on June 1st 1957. Don was then accepted to Utah State University where he completed his Engineering Degree.
While attending Utah State University Don was married to the Love of his life Laurel Langford. Don & Laurel were married in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 11th 1959. Don & Laurel celebrated the birth of their first child Loura Lee Mayfield on June 8th 1960. Don graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelors Degree in January of 1961. Soon after graduation Don went to work for Chance Vought in Grand Prairie, Texas in 1961. He worked there for four years. During this time Don & Laurel celebrated the birth of their second child Bonnie Irene Mayfield on March 15th, 1962. Don helped build the first LDS Chapel in Grand Prairie, Texas.
In 1965 Don and Laurel Mayfield moved their family from Grand Prairie, Texas to Florissant Missouri to work for McDonnell Douglas. Don would finish his career with McDonnell Douglas and work his way through the ranks finishing as the Senior Technical Specialist of Welding and oversaw the operation of McDonnell Douglas's Airplane Production line. While in Florissant Don & Laurel celebrated the birth of their third child Julie Ann Mayfield on March 8, 1968. During this time in St Louis Don served in many callings in the church including Cub Scout Master, Ward Clerk, Elders Quorum President and Bishop of the St. Louis 5th Ward. In the year 2000 Don & Laurel volunteered and were called to a Service Mission in Nauvoo, Illinois. Don served as restoration specialist where his talents were put to good use making wagons, restoring and repairing buildings and even making the key to the Nauvoo Temple. Don aslo served as a High Priest Quorum President and Temple Worker for eleven years. He served as a Physical Facilities Representative.
In June of 2007 Don & Laurel moved to Byrnes Mill, Missouri where Don was able to enjoy many of his favorite activities including fishing, hunting, gardening welding, sharpening knives & fixing things. He was active all his life and loved to help others.
Don is survived by his wife Laurel, his daughters Loura & Rod Horrocks, their Daughter Charla & Son Matthew, Bonnie & Eric Larsen with their Daughter Elliana & Julie & Steve Lake and their three sons Nathan (his wife Kaylie), Jordan & Daniel. He loved the Lord and the Gospel of Jesus Christ and showed true charity through his living example and many acts of service to his immediate family, his church family, his neighbors, friends and everyone he came into contact with. All of our lives are brighter and better for knowing him.
