Michael R. Green, passed away on Monday April 09, 2018. Son of the late Robert P. and Jane (nee Goodrich) Green; dear father of Robert J. (Susan) Green and Charles (Tina) Green; loving brother of Martha “Marty” (Bob Barkman) Green, Susan “Sue” (John) Davis, Allen (JoAnne) Green and the late Stephen L. Green; dear brother-in-law of Bethany Green. Mike loved his family (as we loved him); his siblings and their spouses, his sons and their spouses, and all the extended families that are still growing. At the family gatherings, Mike was always the first to arrive and the last to leave. He felt a “triple” and special love for his grandchildren Blake, Catelyn and Dyan. Mike maintained a close friendship with childhood friends. Mike was very loyal. Mike was exceptionally mechanical. He was a willing source of information and help for his less mechanically inclined friends and family. He had been an assistant golf pro and was an excellent golfer. Michael learned to fish from his grandfather, loved it, and passed that love on to his kids. He especially loved the marshes of the Carolina Low Country and visited them several times a year. Mike was an intelligent, loving, and gentle man. He loved to read science and science fiction. He was convinced that man’s destiny was in the stars. He couldn’t wait for man to visit nearby planets. Perhaps he is visiting them now. Mike loved his family, and we loved him. We will miss you so much! Memorial gathering Saturday April 14, 2018 10-11 A.M. with Service at 11 A.M. The azaleas and dogwoods were blooming in Atlanta when I learned my brother died. Now they are beginning to fade. Flowers don’t last very long, but my memories of my brother Mike will last my lifetime.
I am constantly thinking of Mike, from memories triggered by my daily routines. It’s hard to work in my garden, read a science fiction story, think about fishing at Tansi, work on the boats or anything else mechanical without Mike coming immediately to mind. Even the daily news reminds me of our many spirited discussions of politics, generally on the telephone from my back deck, a glass of wine always in hand. I didn’t realize how much I was dependent on Mike in my everyday life. I was on the telephone talking to him about twice each week about all sorts of things.
I often called him for information or clarification about our early lives. We went to the same schools, had the same friends, played and later worked in many of the same places. He was older, so he had a better grasp on our early childhood. He had memories of relatives who passed on before I was born, or when I was too young to remember. We shared these early memories of friends and both our parents extended families. Also Dad’s BBQs, Christmas gatherings and other holidays, family vacations, walking to school, neighborhood games and adventures, shared friends and acquaintances.
Once or twice each year he would visit me at Tansi, our South Carolina low country fish camp. I’m getting ready to go to Tansi tomorrow, and it won’t be the same. I miss my big brother.

Recalling all the road trips to Tansi Island S. Carolina for fishing, golf, and exploring the low country. Listening to all of Mike’s words of wisdom as we drove. You will be missed around the oyster beds of Jenkins Creek and by me.

Fondly recall our salmon fishing trips to Michigan. Mike, Steve and Don showed me how it was done. Rest in peace Mike.
