Otto was the loving husband of the late Arlene D. (nee' Langeneckert) Berberich; loving father of Edward, Robert (Sharon), and James Berberich, and Mary Hastey; dear grandfather of Josephine (Jeff) Reale, Jessica Berberich, Nicholas Hastey, and Jacob Hastey; dear brother of William D. Berberich; dear uncle and friend to many in his lifetime.
Otto grew up in South St. Louis, and attended Roosevelt High School, home of the Rough Riders. He served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army. He met and married the love of his life, Arlene, a love story that lasted over 50 years until she passed in 2009. He attended college at the University of Missouri (Mizzou) where he earned his Bachelors. He came back to St. Louis to attend Washington University where he earned his Masters in Business Administration.
Otto was very involved with his kids throughout their lives. He coached kids, including his own, in baseball, soccer, and basketball, and had many winning teams. He was also heavily involved with his children's schools and their education. He was Father of The Year at CBC, and was instrumental in the organization of the auction program at St. Elizabeth Academy. He worked two jobs to put his kids through school.
Otto was a leader. He was Commander of his VFW Post 555, and a lifetime member of The American Legion. He loved his country. He loved his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services are private. Military Honors will be bestowed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Otto's memory to the Parkinson's Foundation or the St. Louis Veterans Home Assistance League are greatly appreciated by the family.
