Age 78 of Maplewood, MN passed away peacefully on November 16, 2018. Preceded in death by parents, Edward P. Jungbauer and Margaret Mary Kane Jungbauer. Survived by beloved wife Sharon Kuhns Jungbauer, Sister, Katherine Kalland (Darrel), and brother, Michael Jungbauer. Also survived by nephew Dustin Kalland and his two children Wyatt and Emily. Ed grew up in St. Paul, graduating from St, Agnes High School and earning an undergraduate degree from the University of MN and an MBA from St. Thomas. He also obtained an Electrical Engineering Degree in 1989. Ed worked at 3M for 45 years, retiring in 2005.
He overcame a multitude of medical problems in his life. In 1969 he had his first Kidney Transplant donated to him by his brother, Mike. He was the first home dialysis patient in the Twin Cities. In the mid-nineties Ed contracted Tuberculosis and lost his transplanted kidney. In 1999 he had a second kidney transplant, donated to him by his sister Kathy, and survived an additional 19 years. In 2016 Ed was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He never complained about coming down with this dreadful disease. He fought courageously through all his illnesses but finally lost the battle on November 16, 2018.
Ed had a deep love for model railroading and realized his dream when he placed a Garden Railroad in his backyard. He loved running his Southern Pacific Daylight on the track.
Ed was a member of the Twin Cities Model Railroad Club, the Minnesota Garden Railroad Society, the Las Vegas Garden Railroad Club and the Southern Pacific Garden Railroad Club.
Ed was loved by all who came in contact with him. He will be remembered as a kind, loyal, fun-loving, gentlemen with a heart of gold.
We would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers at Boutwells Landing Care Center for their devotion to all the memory care residents on the third floor. Ed had extraordinary care from these fabulous men and women. In additional a special thank you to Jubilee, the Hospice Nurse who cared for Ed on his last day. She was amazing!! We are truly grateful.
Funeral mass will be held 11 AM Friday, November 23, 2018 at The Presentation of the BVM(1725 Kennard St. Maplewood, MN 55109) with visitation one hour prior beginning at 10 AM. Memorials preferred to Alzheimer’s Research, National Kidney Foundation, or the Mayo Clinic.
