Marilyn graduated from Our Lady of Peace High School and continued her education completing her Associates of Arts in nursing from Anoka Ramsey, Bachelor's degree from Metropolitan State University and her Masters Degree from the University of Minnesota. She was a member of the International Honor Society of Nursing Sigma Theta Tau.
Marilyn was a registered nurse with a masters in public health nursing. Throughout her career she served in various capacities in healthcare. Including as a clinical coordinator for the burn unit, orthopedics and neurology at Region's Hospital and serving as executive director for the Minnesota Nurses Association. She finished her career as a school nurse for St. Paul middle schools and Harding High School.
Marilyn was a voracious reader and loved education throughout life. She was also a beautiful cross-stitcher. Her favorite place to be was on the shore of Lake Superior.
She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Fern (Garbe) Cunningham.
Marilyn will be missed by her sisters Michelle Urbanski, Maureen (Randall) Wolhaupter and Maryjo Cunningham; nephews: Brian (Cathy) Wolhaupter, John (Jodi) Wolhaupter, Shawn (Rhonda) Urbanski, Jason (Jennifer) Urbanski, Andrew (Nicole) Urbanski and Seth Urbanski; five great nephews; five great nieces; two great great nieces; special friends Shannon Tambornino, Mary Ann Conkey and Joseph Warnert and her cat companion Rocky.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 19, 2022 at 11:00 am at St. Jeromes Catholic Church 380 Roselawn Ave. E St. Paul MN 55117 with visitation one hour prior to service, luncheon following Mass. Private interment. Please wear a mask.
Memorials may be made in Marilyn's name to a no kill animal shelter of your choice, Planned Parenthood of MN or St. Jeromes Church.
