He is survived by his brother, Lawrence (Eva) Grefe; son, David Grefe (Lovella Rempel) and grandson, Andrew Rempel; daughter, Katharine Vens and grandchildren, Michael Bokota, Jennifer (David) Peck; great-grandchildren, Kenneth, Christian, Delenn and Ryker; and various other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alma Grefe; wife, Aeriel Grefe; and twin brother, Marvin who died as an infant.
Melvin enjoyed deer hunting in Minnesota and Wyoming and fishing. He had a cabin on West Leaf Lake in Ottertail County which he and his wife loved to go to in the summer.
He served in the Army in Occupied Japan in WWII and later was active in the VFW in North St Paul where he was in the drill team, quartermaster and served as honor guard.
He lived for about 60 years on Cottage Ave in St Paul until he fell and had to live in Assisted Living in Maplewood for the last 4+ years of his life.
The funeral service will be on Sunday May 16th at 2PM with visitation one hour before at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (655 Forest St N, St Paul MN 55106).
In lieu of flowers memorials can be sent to the American Heart Association.
