Rosetta Rose (Rosenberger) Bishop was a life long resident of St. Paul. Born in 1931 to Ausgust John and Una (Savage) Rosenberger she enjoyed a happy childhood with her brothers and sisters in spite of the Great Depression.
Rose met the Great love of her life, Elmer E. Bishop Sr., when she was just 16. She fondly recalled that she knew he was the "One" after their first date. She married Elmer in a sky blue dress on March 20, 1948 with a reception to follow at his families' farm. Their first baby Elmer Jr was born in December of that year followed by Edward, Linda, Vandella, Ernest and Eric. Rose often said "she learned about love when her babies were born".
Rosetta loved her family fiercely. If she considered you one of "hers" she would move heaven and earth for you. She poured herself into making a happy home for them. Rose enjoyed her family pastimes of camping, fishing and spending time with friends and family. Holidays were a particular passion of Roses and she loved nothing more then spending time with her loved ones. She was known to spend hours in preparation for Company and Family dinners. Open to all neighbors and children, her, kitchen was never closed. In fact many wonderful hours were spent playing cards and "gabbing".
Elmer Bishop Sr. was called to heaven much too soon and left Rose a widow at age 56. Although heartbroken and grief stricken Rose determined to press on and for the first time in her life began a career in the floral business and in early childhood education. She received her drivers license and away she went. She devoted herself even more to making sure that her family was secure. During this time she developed great friendships with Elaine, Leslie and Gladys. She enjoyed going out with the "girls", painting the town red, and while she said she never danced on tabletop, there are pictures...
In her declining years, Rose enjoyed reminiscing about days gone by, her great love, and visits from friends and family. On her 77th birthday she wanted no gifts but instead asked for a camping holiday at the lake with a TBone steak for every member of her family. Sons Eric and Ernest made that wish come true. Rose enjoyed the love and companionship of caretaker daughter Vandella over the past 2 decades. Son Elmer's poems brought great joy to his mother and she often spoke of his talent. She enjoyed phone calls with daughter Linda Lou where they often shared stories of pets. Pets were a lifelong comfort.of Roses. Most of her cats were named Sam and dog Snuffy was.a particularly adored companion. Son Edward was called home in 2008, and Rose grieved his loss daily. At the end of her life Rose eagerly awaited holding him in her arms along with her beloved husband, parents and siblings.
