Andrew Ozzie Wilkinson, 34, of Hebron, fondly known as “Andy” or “Fuzzy” to many, lost his life to mental illness on September 17, 2026. Born in Salisbury, Maryland, he was the son of the late Ozzie Jay Wilkinson and Carol Anne Mitchell Wilkinson of Hebron.
After graduating from Mardela Middle & High School, he attended Wor-Wic Community College and Salisbury University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology. Following graduation from college, he served with AmeriCorps teaching at schools in Colorado, Louisiana and North Carolina. Upon returning to the area, his career included positions with Wicomico County Board of Education, Laurel School District, Brass Balls Saloon, The Globe, Mogan’s Oyster House, and most recently he taught special education at Woodbridge Early Childhood Education Center and served at Red Roost.
Andrew was fun, loving, smart, kind, adventurous, flamboyant, hardworking, competitive, enthusiastic, extremely passionate, a sports lover (avid Denver Broncos fan) and always late lol. He lived large, loved big, taught and mentored passionately, traveled, laughed, touched more lives than he ever realized, and left pieces of himself in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know him. He had a way of bringing laughter and joy wherever he went. His absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled, but the love he gave and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
One of his greatest accomplishments was the difference he made as a teacher. Teaching was so much more than a job to him. He built relationships with his students, encouraged them when they struggled, celebrated their accomplishments, and made his classroom a place where students could laugh, learn, and feel accepted. He understood that sometimes the most important thing a teacher can give a child is someone who believes in them. Andrew went above and beyond to ensure every student felt supported, including serving as a 1:1 guide for a visually impaired student so he could participate in sports. He also coached wrestling at Laurel Middle School, a role that combined his love of the sport with his passion for mentoring young people, and he enjoyed working with horses during his time in North Carolina.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Anne Mitchell Wilkinson, of Hebron; his sister, Abigail Marie Wilkinson, of Hebron; his fianceé, Ameena Jumarally, of Laurel; his grandmother, Judith Gilliss, of Sharptown; his grandfather, Howard Darby, of Salisbury; his niece, Violet June Wilkinson, of Hebron; his fiancée’s niece, Mia Jumarally, of Millsboro, who adored him; his aunts, Debra Baker, and her husband, Jim, of Hebron; Janice Ilczuk and her husband, Mike, of Delmar; Sharon Melone of Seaford; and Vicki Campbell and her partner, Jeffrey Kohel, of Milford; his uncles, Craig Wilkinson, and his wife, Sheri, of Delmar; and Brian Evans of Hebron; his cousins, some of whom were like brothers and sisters to him, Tara Owens, and her husband, Kevin, of Hebron; David Baker and his wife, Mai, of Hebron; Ginny Erny and her husband, Jay, of Virginia Beach; Lee Evans and his wife, Jessica, of Hebron; David Craig Wilkinson and his wife, Courtney, of Mardela; Kerry Wilkinson of Delmar; Megan Maddox and her husband, Jake, of Delmar; Hannah Tull and her husband, Brandon, of Mardela Springs; Bethany Casamento and her wife, Jenn, of Milford; and Jenna Campbell of Milford; as well as numerous second cousins; and his dog, Bella.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Hursel Cordrey, Betty Cordrey and Betty Mitchell; his grandfathers, Oswald Lee Wilkinson and John Wayne Mitchell; his grandmother, June Marie Wilkinson; his uncles, Barry Lynn Wilkinson and Dennis Melone; and his aunt, Cynthia Ann Evans.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the gymnasium at Nelson’s Memorial Church, 200 Main Street, Hebron, Maryland. Feel free to dress in whatever makes you comfortable that reminds you of Andrew, including but not limited to crazy socks, shorts, football jerseys, t-shirts with the sleeves cut off, Xtratuf boots and dress shirt and tie. After the service, the celebration will continue at Red Roost which will include outside activities so please bring a lawn chair.
