Our beloved mother, Barbara L. Hoagland Sherman went to Eternal Rest on November 7, 2022 after a short illness. She was born on October 30, 1924 in Weymouth, Massachusetts and grew up in Flushing, Long Island, New York. Her parents Garrett F. Hoagland and Luella Low Hoagland preceded our mom in death along with two sisters, Eleanor and Sara Jane.
After graduating, she attended Coker College in South Carolina. Our mother married the love of her life, Ellsworth D. Sherman in 1944 and together they raised their two daughters. They celebrated 59 years before his passing.
They moved from New York to Salisbury in 1950 to be closer to her parents for a quieter life. Mom was a homemaker, she was active in Trinity United Methodist Church, and the Junior Board at PRMC. Our mother will be remembered for always having on her lipstick and perfume plus her pink nail polish. Mostly she will be remembered for always being gracious and loving to all.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories “and there are many”, Pam Lynch (Charlie) and Penny Connor (Brad); her beloved grandchildren, Shawen (Megan), Cali (Matt), Lynley (Rob), also her beloved great-granddaughters, Kate, Teigan, and Teigans baby brother due in March. Also survived by a niece Louise, great-nieces and great-nephew. Family was everything to our parents.
Pam and Penny cannot thank everyone at Wicomico Nursing Home for all their love and care for our mother. We knew she was in wonderful hands. The family requests no flowers. If you would like to honor our mother, please send a donation to the Wicomico County Humane Society 5130 Citation Dr. Salisbury, MD 21804, or the Wicomico Nursing Home Activities Fund, 900 Booth St Salisbury, MD 21801. Mom loved when Pets on Wheels came to visit and looked forward each day to see what was on the schedule. She was usually one of the first there.
At the request of mom, there will not be a public service. There will be a private family burial.
