Darryl James Lewis, 70, of Nanticoke passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023 at his home. Born in San Diego, CA he was the son of the late Dallas James Lewis and Isobel Rose Koerber Lewis. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jo-Ann McKenney Lewis; daughter, Allison Foltz and her husband Michael; son, Bryan Lewis and his wife Shelby; grandchildren, Ashley Foltz and Kiersten Foltz. He is also survived by two step grandchildren, Chloe Price and Maddox Harbour; sister, Diane Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas James Lewis, II and D Jay Lewis; as well as “Little Ricky,” his beloved and constant canine companion.
Darryl was a hard-working self-employed General Contractor, a talented Master Carpenter and Cabinetmaker. He was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his craft. He always said, “if you are gonna do a job, you gotta do it right.” In the past, he did oyster tonging and trot line crabbing out of his small wooden workboat in the Nanticoke River.
For Darryl, work was his hobby. If not working on a construction or carpentry project, he was doing various chores on his horse farm; such as cutting, baling & stacking hay, fixing fences, managing the manure pile, mowing pastures & fields, cutting trees, burning stumps & limbs, fixing & maintaining the various farm equipment, feeding horses, mucking stalls, and generally being a stellar horse husband. He also made himself available for any of his children’s or grandchildren’s needs or projects.
