David was a 1987 graduate of Perryville High School, attended college at Salisbury State College and graduated in 1991 with a BA in Leisure Studies. His professional career started as a counselor at New Dominion School in Dillwyn, VA helping adolescents w/behavioral and learning difficulties then moved into case management as an in-home counselor with Family Preservation Services. He finally worked in foster care /family management services with Fluvanna County Department of Social Services/Child Protection as a Family Services Supervisor. David was passionate about helping children and families in his career and he went above and beyond in his community service.
David loved playing sports – especially baseball, basketball, and soccer. He was an exceptional pitcher and goalie – even playing at the college level for a few years. He also enjoyed coaching and was very active with his son’s baseball and soccer teams. He loved music, playing his guitar, and had the most amazing, eclectic taste in artists and songs. David had a brazen sense of humor and the ability to make you laugh at the most inappropriate times – which was one of the best things about him. He loved animals – like his mother – and always had dogs, cats, or usually both. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially trips to the beach – Rehoboth, DE, the Outer Banks, NC, and the Florida Keys. David loved his family and was especially proud of his son, Finn, and his athletic achievements in soccer and his educational/professional success.
In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to Community Cats Coalition at this link - https://communitycatscoalition.com/donate/ - in David’s name. He loved life, his friends/family, and having fun so there will be a celebration of his life sometime later this year in Perryville. Details will be shared on Facebook.
