Gayle Elaine Ruark Welsh, 80, of Salisbury passed away Friday, December 15, 2023 at Genesis in Salisbury. Born January 7, 1943 in Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Dorothy Hill Ruark, and sister to Bruce.
Gayle worked as an Administrative Secretary for Wicomico County Schools for over 30 years. Many students were touched by her kindness as she wiped tears, gave advice, sat with children, or assisted parents and teachers with their day. She dedicated her life to serving others, whether through the hundreds of students and families of DelMar Elementary, or for her own family and friends. She lived her Christian faith steadfastly, standing firm in her trust of God. She never wavered from her beliefs, no matter the circumstances. We are confident she now rejoices at His table, healed and whole. She is now rewarded and reunited with all that have gone before her.
Gayle is survived by her three children; Rob Welsh, Randy Welsh and his wife Patti, Amy Welsh Poso and her partner Tober Hensley; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Robert “Bob” Welsh in 2003. In addition to her family, she leaves behind a void in the lives of many friends; Niki, Sharon, Bev, Terri & Bonnie, to name a few.
As she lays down her mortal restraints and gains her eternal freedom, please take a moment to remember the beautiful spirit that is Gayle. The wife. The mother. The Grandmom and the friend. She was an artist, song writer and poet. She loved to read and read thousands of books in her lifetime. She was full of wit and wisdom; sarcasm and sweet sass. She loved philosophy and politics, instigating many healthy debates on both. Sometimes, just for the fun of a good conversation. She adored her family and lived to find treasures for everyone while thrifting with her friends all over the Eastern Shore. She found peace and joy with her church family. Everyone counted on her baking cakes for Bible studies and church gatherings. She was forever present when needed and forever loyal to those she loved. Her words, laughter and beauty will remain here with us in our hearts and in our thoughts. She is but a memory and a smile away.
A Celebration of Gayle’s Life will be held January 13, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Wicomico Memorial Park, 721 Snow Hill Rd., in Salisbury. This will be as she wished, a short pause at her resting place to share blessings and love for her journey home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Hermon United Methodist Church, 31353 Mount Hermon Rd. Salisbury, MD, 21804.
