Grace Faye Whayland

Grace Faye Whayland, 92 of Salisbury, MD, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Tidal Health in Salisbury. Born July 2, 1933 in Cleveland, TN she was the daughter of the late Grover Letcher Jones and Grace Samples Jones.

Faye loved her Lord, Jesus Christ and actively enjoyed her church family at Calvary Baptist Tabernacle. She prayed earnestly for her friends, family and Nation. In earlier years she taught Sunday School and was active in Christian Women’s in Maryland and North Carolina, and continued to maintain an active life of faith and service to family, friends and community.

After retiring as a service representative from Verizon in 1988, she and her husband, Mark “Mickey” Whayland moved to Pinehurst, NC for seven years. Upon returning to the Salisbury area to be closer to family, Faye spent many hours volunteering at PRMC regional hospital. Always a gracious hostess, she thoroughly enjoyed having friends and family for wonderful dinners and celebrations. She readily invited friends or strangers; opened her home to all she knew and possessed a giving spirit.

The family would like to thank her devoted caregivers: Dixie Thomas, Mona Hotchkin, Odette Torchon, Marlene Torchon, Valerie McKenzie, Brenda Thomas, Lorraine Landing, Jenn Bennett and a special niece Erin Leffew.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Tamara Brewer; grandson, Dr. Joshua Brewer (Sarah); great-grandchildren, Isaac and Benjamin Brewer; daughter, Ellen Whayland Dietz (Frank DeLizza); grandson, Mike DeLizza (Theresa); great-grandchildren, Adam and Luke; several nieces and nephews and devoted friend, Robert Townsend.

She was preceded in death by her son, Steven Brewer in 2023; her first husband Robert Brewer, father of her son, in 2014; and M. Mark “Mickey” Whayland in 2018 with whom she enjoyed 32 years of marriage. Also, preceding her in death were her sisters Edna Dunn and Barbara Blankenship; brothers JD Jones, JR Jones, Paul Jones and Ray Jones.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 28th, 2026 at 11 AM at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main St in Salisbury. Friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Rev Brandon Morris will officiate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery.
