Gypsy was educated in the Virginia school system. She retired September 3, 2003, from Rural Development after 29 ½ years of service. She enjoyed her work and the people she worked with; they were like family to her. She was an independent woman, always on the go and always put others before herself. Each month she looked forward to her luncheons with her group of friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan R. Walker (Sandy) of Orlando, FL, son, Henry N. Shipp, IV (Shelly) of Petersburg, VA; two stepchildren who she raised as her own, Tammy Cherrix (David) of Salisbury and Ray “RD” Dashiell Long, Jr. of Tyaskin; seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband who she loved and missed very much, Ray Dashiell Long, Sr. in 2004 and a grandson, Willis Walker.
A funeral service will be held Monday, October 6, 2025, at 11am at Tyaskin United Methodist Church, 21428 Tyaskin Church Rd, in Tyaskin where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Rev. Courtland Cropper will officiate. Interment will follow in Tyaskin Cemetery.
