Jean Straub Poe

Jean Straub Poe, 86, of Seaford died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at Methodist Manor House. Born in Pittsburgh, PA she was the daughter of the late James and Jane Straub.Mrs. Poe was born and raised in Pittsburgh, and then after marrying her husband, John they moved to Wilmington, DE. While in Wilmington she was a member of the Junior Board at Wilmington General Hospital and the DAR. After retirement they moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she continued her DAR work. After her husband’s passing, she relocated to the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, DE. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading mysteries and watching them on TV. As many people have commented, “Her smile was like sunshine on a cloudy day.”She is survived by two sons, James M. Poe of Hendersonville, NC and John C. Poe and his wife Deborah of Bridgeville; four grandchildren, Eric Poe and his wife Stacy, Christina Poe, John C. Poe, III, and Grace Poe; great-grandchildren, Emily, Elias, and Ethan Poe; sister Carol Guilbert and her husband Richard; three nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John L. Poe in 2001.A memorial service was held, Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2 PM at The Methodist Manor House in Seaford. Inurnment was held in Homewood Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be in memory of Jean to The American Heart Association, P.O.
