Joseph "Joe" Orville Pryor, Sr., a beloved member of the Salisbury community, passed away at his home on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Born on July 29, 1969, Joe was the son of the late Gene Pryor and JoAnn Borger.
After graduating from Parkside High School in 1987, Joe dedicated several years to the United States Marine Corps, serving honorably and briefly stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Upon returning home, Joe pursued higher education at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in construction with a concentration in management technology in 1998. He worked as a project manager for companies like Wohlsen Dashiell and the Carl M. Freeman Companies.
Known for his warm and open personality, Joe made friends effortlessly, remembering names and connecting with people in every encounter. Having been paired with a devoted K9 through a veteran’s organization, Joe found companionship in a Great Dane, the second in his lifetime, and the third of which he affectionately named "Blue." Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and passionately supporting the Pittsburgh Steelers. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his children.
He is survived by his son Joseph Pryor, Jr. and his wife Michelle; daughter, Taylor Pryor; brother, Gene Pryor and his wife Sandy; sisters, Gena and Deanna Pryor; and nieces Sarah, Emily, and Abigail.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, December 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Crossroads Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown, DE 19947. Family and friends are welcome to arrive at 10:30am if they wish to pay their respects before the service. Refreshments will be provided following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to a Veteran’s organization of your choice.
Joe's memory will endure in the hearts of those who knew him, a reflection of his deep love for family, his genuine connections with friends, and his enthusiasm for the simple joys of life.
