

Salisbury- Miriam B. Hughes, 98, of Salisbury passed away Monday, July 4, 2016. Born in Kent County, Maryland she was the daughter of the late Claude M. Blackiston and Pearl Fulkner Blackiston. She was preceded in death by her husband Max P. Hughes, Sr. in 1991 and a daughter Marsha Richards in 1979. Mrs. Hughes married her husband Max, December 13, 1937 in Wilmington, Delaware where they resided and where Mr. Hughes attended college. After returning to Salisbury she was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church for over 50 years, she held many offices on the board and was on the Alter Guild. She was a past member of Daughters of the American Revolution, the Historical Society, Pemberton Hall, Hospice, the Ward Foundation, and loved the great outdoors. She is survived by two sons, Don B. Hughes and his wife Leslie and Max Pete Hughes, Jr. and his wife Karen; five grandchildren, Lucille Hughes, David Hughes, Melaine Copeland, Scott Hughes, and Genie Hughes; six great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11am at Bethesda United Methodist Church where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Rev. Robert Miller and Rev. Dale Vroman will officiate. Interment will follow in Parsons Cemetery. The family would like to thank Debbie Sockriter, all the sitters, the staff and nurses from Coastal Hospice.
