Norita Rudderforth Ball (83) peacefully returned to God early Friday morning in view of her beloved Nanticoke River with over 50 years of marriage to Harvey Ball. She was born in Washington DC and raised her family in Galesville, MD until retiring to Sharptown, MD. She was the eldest child of Benjamin (Jerry) Rudderforth and step-mother Grace (Momma) of Shadyside, Maryland and Elizabeth Gumpman Rudderforth Smith and Step-father Marlin of Silver Spring, MD. Her siblings included Melvina, Patricia Ann (deceased), Teresa, Linda, Lana, Benjamin "Bud", Mary, and Melissa. Her greatest reward were her children Stephen Byington (Karen) of Kentucky, Susan Miller (Wayne) of North Carolina, David Byington (Terry) of Florida, Dawn Byington (Linda) of Florida, and Stacy Cottingham (Jeff) of Maryland. In her lifetime, she loved 11 grandchildren across the country, many great grandchildren, and beloved nieces and nephews.
Her heart was to serve others as she worked in healthcare, later in the hospitality industry with the bed and breakfast, and member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was an avid story teller, artist, and traveler. Her love of gardening, decorating, and raising her puppies brought her much happiness. She had a wicked sense of humor especially at Halloween and active in every community she called home. We are grateful to have walked Mom home from her home with the assistance of her hospice care team and special caregivers Sadie and Tracey.
