reunited with his beloved wife of 42 years, Pola Noe Bishop, who passed away in 2000. He is
survived by his daughter, Betsy Bishop Affayroux (Ron), and son, Richard Bishop (Joan Wiley),
as well as his grandchildren, Jordan Robinson (Emilee), Joshua Robinson (Phoenix), Hannah
Whisler (Riley), Brittany Bishop and his great grandchildren, Shelby, Jordan, Alana, Crew, and
Kelly.
Beans, as he was affectionately called, grew up in Bluefield, West Virginia where he met his
wife and some of his lifelong friends, whom he followed to the Eastern Shore. He graduated
from Concord College in Athens, West Virginia with a degree in Education. Beans taught
English and Social Studies in West Virginia, Ohio, Delaware, and Maryland. Later in his
educational career, he became a high school guidance counselor at Snow Hill High School. One
of his greatest joys besides interacting and supporting students was coaching football,
basketball, volleyball, and golf. Over the years, he had continued relationships with students
who went on to become educators and coaches. In retirement, he was passionate about
actively attending and cheering on his grandchildren as they participated in sports. Where his
grandchildren were was where he wanted to be.
He found the greatest source of connection with friends on the golf course or in the stands of a
stadium. If you saw him around town, he likely was wearing WVU gear with a smile on his face.
He volunteered as a marshal at the LPGA tournaments on the East Coast, and locally, he
counted golf tournament scores for high school students.
He can be remembered by his generosity, consistent joke telling, and his love of people. Any
time he had the chance, he would pull out a picture of his wife, Pola, to brag about her beauty
and his love for her. His family is comforted to know he had a love for Jesus and his faith carried
him through.
A Memorial Service will be held for Beans Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Wicomico
Presbyterian Church, Salisbury, MD at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to The Christian Shelter (Salisbury,
MD) and Halo MInistries (Salisbury, MD).
