It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Alvina S. Arizpe, also known affectionately to family as Tia Vina and to friends as Sylvia. Alvina passed away on October 1, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 91.
Born on March 1, 1935, in Lagarto, Texas, to Jose L. Silva and Florencia Valadez Silva, Alvina was a devout Catholic whose strong faith guided her throughout her life. Right out of high school, she pursued her passion for cosmetology, becoming a licensed manicurist in Texas. She was known for her exceptional professionalism and dedication, working at the Wallace Beauty Salon in Alamo Heights for 30 years, where she was deeply respected, loved, and treasured by her clients.
Alvina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray, as well as her parents and her siblings: Larry V. Silva, Felipe V. Silva, Christine S. Garcia, Jose V. Silva Jr., Refugia V. Silva, Ernestine V. Silva, Enidina S. Torres, and Ignacia S. Salas.
Alvina and Ray shared a wonderful life filled with music, dancing, travel, and hosting gatherings for friends. Known in the family as the "casserole, dip, and goulash queen," she loved trying new recipes and always kept an open kitchen door, welcome snacks, and a warm heart for her neighbors. She also took great joy in gardening and caring for her flowers and plants. She was a die-hard Spurs fan and absolutely loved the team.
A loving, caring, funny, and generous woman, Alvina will be greatly missed and will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
