Anita Robles, age 97, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024. Anita was born in San Antonio, Texas to Elvira Nieto and Andres Garza. She graduated Lanier High School in 1945 and would go on to work at AB Frank Co in downtown San Antonio and later Kelly AFB where she worked for 31 years before retiring in 1982. Anita met her husband Johnnie Robles at Kelly AFB. They were married for 30 years. Anita had 4 children, Anna Marie Gonzalez, Jesus Valdez, Belinda Ramirez and Sonia Robles.
Anita lived a long life, she was privileged to see a changing world and experienced many joys and some heartbreaks along the way. Anita was the type of person to never complain about anything in her life and devoted her time to her family. When her children were young, she worked tirelessly for her family, waking up at 4am to prepare breakfast before getting everyone off to school all before going to work herself. She was a selfless woman who always thought of others. On Holidays she would have an open invitation for the family and friends, where she would cook everything from scratch. Her food was sensational! There was always enough for everyone. Anita never learned to drive, instead she would take the bus or rely on her husband and children for transportation. When her children were young, she would take them on the bus to downtown San Antonio to shop, have lunch or attend special events like the Fiesta Night Parade. Anita was extremely resourceful and never lazy, she never hesitated to take things into her own hands.
She loved baking, cooking, listening to music, dancing, and singing. She always made mint tea from her garden for her children anytime they felt ill. It was the remedy of choice! Anita loved working with her hands, which only increased with her love of gardening, especially flowers. She grew gladiolas, hydrangeas, begonias, and rose bushes, in every color she could get her hands on.
Anita is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Johnnie Robles; 2 of her sisters, Lydia Forester and Estella Watkins; and 2 of her brothers, Herbert Garza and Joe Garza. She is survived by her 4 children, Anna Marie Gonzales (husband Johnny), Jesus Valdez (wife Yolanda), Belinda Ramirez, and Sonia Robles; her 7 grandchildren, John Gonzales, Laura Meddaugh, Venessa Nielson, Jennifer Valdez, Anastasia Ramirez, Brazil Maldonado, and Mila Maldonado; her 7 great grandchildren, Stephen, Ethan, Gavin, and Layla Nielson, Ashley and Dean Meddaugh, and Jay Gonzales; and her remaining siblings, Martina Poyser, Andres Garza, Ernest Garza, and Elida Carrillo; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family extends a special and heartfelt thanks to Rosa Cortez and her daughters Diana and Nadia at Faith Home for the care and love they gave to Anita in her final years.
