A decorated Army veteran of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, he was the epitome of the military values of Strength, Honor, and Respect.
Born in Pleasanton, Texas, the eldest of twelve brothers and sisters, Tony was brought up in harsh farm conditions evocative of the wild west.
Which was why he loved Western shows and music so much, especially John Wayne Movies.
He loved telling the stories of his humble beginnings, and the many adventures he had with his siblings, his dog, and his horse, Billy.
He enlisted in the Army in WWII to join his brothers in combat.
He moved swiftly in rank to command his own troops in The Korean War.
In 1950, he married Maria Georgina Barrera- his one and only true love that he pursued since they were young teenagers.
Together, they had six children, their oldest son, Mario, died shortly after birth.
His other children are Anna B. Arguijo (b.1951- d.1991), Orlando A. Arguijo (b.1954), Dorinda A. Peachey (b.1962), Armando O. Arguijo (b.1964), and Rolando R. Arguijo (b.1966).
He was transferred and stationed in various parts of the world and The United States, until buying his residence in San Antonio in 1967, and here was where he remained until he passed away.
When he retired from the Army, he became a manager of a service station, still operating under military standards.
When he retired from that, he helped his wife, Georgina sell her Avon products at the Flea Market, most notably The Bandera Road Flea Market, and kept selling after her death in 2001.
When he had fallen and broken his leg in 2017, he remained at home, but continued his exercises and watching his favorite shows which consisted of movies or show based in and on WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Also- Westerns, Wrestling, and The Price is Right.
Through it all, Tony always had a bright outlook in life. He was a happy person who adored laughter. His heart was always filled with love for all that he knew.
Tough, and tender- he left us peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was 97 years old.
He was very much loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
If ever a man were designed by God to serve the United States Army- this was him.
We salute you, Sgt. Arguijo- you had gone above and beyond duty.
You fulfilled your mission.
May you be at peace.
