Barry Donnelly

Barry was the beloved husband of Adele Muñoz Donnelly. Together they shared 64 years of devoted marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and generosity.

Born in Auburn, Maine, Barry spent his early childhood in Lowell, Maine. He was the son of Robert and Lorette Donnelly. At just 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country for four years. While stationed in San Antonio, he met the love of his life, Adele, and together they made Texas their home.

Following his military service, Barry began a career with Firestone Tire & Rubber Company. Through determination, integrity, and hard work, he advanced from an entry-level position to store manager before eventually becoming co-owner of two Firestone stores. His commitment to family extended into his business, where he was proud to employ many nephews and close friends, always eager to help others succeed.

Barry, known in the Orthodox faith as Subdeacon Barsanuphius, was a devoted member of St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church. His deep love for Christ was evident in every aspect of his life. He faithfully attended services, served his parish with humility, and spent hours each day in prayer while walking through his neighborhood. Many recognized him as the kind, bearded gentleman carrying a hand-carved staff as he prayerfully walked the streets around Jefferson High School.

After his love for God, Barry's greatest joy was his family. He faithfully called his daughter, Sonya, every day, always asking about everyone and ending the conversation with, "Are you stopping by after work for some coffee and a snack?" Barry expressed his love through hospitality. He delighted in feeding those he loved and was happiest when family and friends gathered around his table. His legendary barbecues featured what he proudly called his "World Famous" chicken, steaks, ribs, burgers, beans, and countless other favorites. No one ever left Barry's home hungry.

Barry's grandchildren held a special place in his heart. To him, each one was his favorite. His first grandchild, Tanya, brought him immeasurable joy, and every grandchild who followed was showered with the same boundless love and affection. He cuddled with them, read stories, sang songs, took them on adventures and family trips, and created treasured memories that will last a lifetime. Above all, his greatest gift to them was sharing his unwavering faith and planting in their hearts a love for Jesus Christ.

Barry is survived by his devoted wife, Adele Muñoz Donnelly; his daughter, Sonya Elaine Cardenas; his son, Roman Anthony Donnelly; his beloved grandchildren, Tanya Elaine Martinez, Amanda Marie Martinez, Cassandra Adele Martinez, Dayla Gypsy Donnelly, Daymian Grey Donnelly, and Roman Gael Donnelly and great grandchildren, Dominic Donnelly and Navi Elaine Mason; as well as numerous cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Barry will be remembered for his steadfast faith, generous heart, unwavering love for his family, and the kindness he freely shared with everyone he met. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the faith he faithfully passed on to future generations.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church, 103 Carolina Street, San Antonio, Texas 78210. A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church, followed by interment at San Fernando Cemetery No. 2. A reception will follow the burial at St. Paul’s Catholic Church school cafeteria, located at 350 Sutton Dr., San Antonio, TX 78228.
