She was preceded in death by her parents Richard C. and Leonora M. Hernandez and brothers Richard and Rudolph Hernandez. She is survived by her spouse of thirty (30) years Pablo M. Gonzalez and children Richard A. Gomez Sr., Joe Gomez Jr., Virginia Ledesma and Arthur Gomez. Daughter in laws Mary Gomez and Janie Gomez. Step children Thomas Gonzalez (deceased) (Linda), John Gonzalez (Yolanda), Pauline Zamora, Marie Gonzalez and Paul Gonzalez (Bertha).
She has nine Grandchildren, nine step Grandchildren, nineteen Great Grandchildren, ten step Great Grandchildren, three Great-Great Grandchildren.
She was a 1943 graduate from Luther Burbank High School. To help support her family she started Civil Service work at Kelly Field on Sept. 1943. In 1948 she married Joe L. Gomez Sr. had four children. Divorced in 1973, he preceded her in death in 1992. Returned to work with the Air Force Reserve. She was the administrative clerk for the Deputy Commander for maintenance 433rd Airlift Wing. She retired in 1990 after working for 32 years.
She received many awards in her lifetime. In 1957 she became a charter member of the VFW, Ladies Auxiliary Post 9186. She was a member with them for 57 years serving as President for 6 of those years. In 1983 she was recognized as Outstanding President for the State of Texas. From 1983 she was the District 20 President. She was affiliated with other organizations as The MOCA #55 in Universal City, American Legion JFK Aux #485, DAV #25, La Societe de Femme Cabane Locale 1055 (40 &8) Kerrville, Texas.
“Bea”, as she was known to everyone, volunteered over 3,000 hours at the Audie Murphy V A Hospital. She would shuttle patients that had a hard time walking from their vehicles to the hospital front door. Bea had only one regret that for the last 7 years, because of her illness, she was not able to physically help veterans. Bea also enjoyed delivering meals for the Meals On Wheels program.
