

Daniel Amaro Caballero, 95, of San Antonio, Texas, was born on February 20, 1931 and went to be with our Lord God on April 11, 2026. He will be remembered with deep respect and enduring affection by all who had the privilege to know him.
Daniel served in the United States Army during the Korean War in 1952 to 1954, and was injured and rehabilitated in Japan
Daniel received decoration medals: Purple Heart honor for his service, SVC medal w/2 BZ stars, UN SVC Medal, Natl Def SVC Medal, and Good Conduct Medal; a chapter of his life marked by duty and steadfast commitment. Daniel returned home to his Mother Theodora Caballero. He worked and retired from Kelly Air Force Base, where he worked in Part Management for the airplanes--and enduring reflection of a life defined by hard work, reliability, and pride in doing things the right way.
He than met his loving wife Bertha and they married in 1955 and were blessed with 5 beautiful children, 3 girls and 2 boys.
Beyond his service and career, Daniel's days were enriched by the simple, meaningful joys he held close. He enjoyed listening to conjunto music and dancing with his beloved wife, and he found satisfaction in being a builder and repairman--someone who could be counted on to fix what was broken and make what was needed. He enjoyed trips to the coast, followed the Dallas Cowboys with loyal enthusiasm, even if that meant coaching them very loudly through the TV, and kept to the familiar comforts of always having his coffee and a sweet before bed. He also loved carne guisada and enchiladas, a favorite that suited his appreciation for home and tradition. He loved his family gatherings, which were often, and his also enjoyed his companion Ernie, his chihuahua.
Known for a warm sense of humor and an easy friendliness, Daniel had a way of making others feel welcome. His kindness was practical and sincere--always ready to help anybody who needed something, giving of himself with a generous spirit and a steady heart. His legacy is one of love, service, and quiet strength, carried forward in the memories of those who cherished him.
Daniel is preceded in his passing by both of his parents, Daniel Caballero and Theodora Amaro Caballero; his beloved wife of almost 40 years, Bertha Caballero; and all of his sisters, Christina Rosales, Susie Baladez, Connie Garza, Sylvia Garcia, and Stella Samaniego.
He is survived by his children, Yolanda Caballero, Annette Caballero Garza, Daniel R. Caballero Jr., Robert Anthony Caballero (fiancé Gina Nerio), and Rose Ann Castillo (husband Ernest); 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Nicole Garza, Adrian Michael Garza (wife Emily), Jay Aaron Garza, Derick Ryan Caballero, Brandon Renee Caballero, AmandaMarie Castillo, Eric Castillo, Justin Castillo, Kimberly Ann Caballero, and Jacob Anthony Caballero; and his 8 great grandchildren, Arianna Rose Rodriguez, Eliza Rose Garza, Jerry Rodriguez III, Allyanna Martinez, Olive Maisie Garza, Ariella Martinez, Noah Theodore Garza, and Conan Daniel Garza; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, his faithful furry companion, Ernie and lots of friends.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Roy Akers Funeral Home, 515 N Main Ave., San Antonio, Texas 78205. The following morning, Thursday, April 30, 2026, a funeral procession will depart the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. for a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrow Catholic Church, 3107 N St. Mary's St., San Antonio, Texas 78212. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd., San Antonio, Texas 78209.
