David L. Valdez

David L. Valdez, age 99, passed away peacefully at home on August 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on March 24, 1927, in Mercedes, Texas, and lived a life filled with faith, music, adventure, and devotion to those he loved.

David is survived by his beloved son, Victor P. Valdez. He was preceded in death by his beloved children, Jeanie Valdez, David Valdez Jr., Adam Valdez, and Abraham Valdez. He also leaves behind his cherished siblings, Noemi Gonzalez, Moises Valdez, and Anita V. Galvan. He is further survived by his extended family: Douglas and Victoria Torres, Victor and Senedra Valdez, Virginia Valdez, Thomas and Lucia Kelley, Eve Valdez, Stephen Valdez, and Michael Valdez, Denise Kantola; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever treasure his memory.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Feliciano and Angelica Valdez; his brothers, Felix Valdez and Daniel Valdez; his great-grandchildren, Alyssa Kelley and Gaia Torres; and additional family members Virginia Valdez, Enriqueta Valdez.

David had a vibrant spirit and a love for life that was evident to everyone who knew him. He enjoyed camping, traveling, singing, playing the guitar and accordion, acting, dancing, and creating lasting memories with family and friends. Music was one of his greatest passions, and whether singing or playing an instrument, he found joy in sharing his talents with those around him. Above all else, David treasured the time he spent with his loved ones, and his greatest happiness came from being surrounded by family.

David will be remembered for his kind heart, warm smile, lively personality, and the love he freely gave to everyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of resilience, laughter, music, and unwavering love for his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that his life was one of purpose, love, and countless treasured memories. May he rest in eternal peace.

Mr. Valdez served in WWII from August 21, 1945, to February 4, 1947. His nephew, Danny Valdez, a surgeon, performed the knee replacement surgery on Mr. Valdez, and they share a close bond.

Visitation will be held at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205, US, on September 7, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with a Prayer Service at the same location on September 7, 2026, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will take place at Everlasting Life Baptist Church, 263 E Harding Blvd, San Antonio, TX 78214, US, on September 8, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Graveside Service at San Fernando Cemetery III, 1735 Cupples Rd, San Antonio, TX 78226, US, on September 8, 2026, from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm.
