Elva G. Vasquez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into eternal rest on April 3, 2014 at the age of 83. Elva was born in Alton Township, Minnesota on June 1, 1930 to parents Maria Lozano and Resendo Gutierrez. She will always be remembered for her great examples of love, wisdom and dedication to her family and friends. She will be profoundly missed. Elva was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Iberra Rendon and her brother Herman Gutierrez. She is survived by her husband Evaristo Daniel Vasquez with whom she enjoyed 63 years of marriage, sister Estela Rodriguez, daughters Rose Marie Garza and husband Richard, Martha Elva Garcia and husband John, Cynthia Ann Brodsky, Maria Teresa Hooper and husband Bill, Magda Elizabeth Salas and husband Ernest as well as 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Elva successfully owned and managed Elva’s Beauty Salon for 30 years and several real estate enterprises. Her expertise in Scrabble gained her the title “The Oracle”. Elva consistently kept up with the most current fashion trends of the day and we all considered her the Diva of Divas. But above this, gratitude was her strongest quality. She always appreciated all that people did for her in words or actions and it is this virtue she would want to pass on. The family will receive friends at Funeria Del Angel Roy Akers. 515 N. Main on Sunday, April 13 at 5:00 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7:00. A procession will depart the funeral home the following morning April 14 at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass officiated by Msgr. John Wagner at St. Paul Catholic Church, 350 Sutton Dr. (78228). A Committal Service will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
