

Ernesto C. Barrera, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on October 21, 2013. Born on June 8, 1912 to Meliton and Augustina Barrera in Kyle, Texas. Ernesto moved to San Antonio in 1935, worked as a carpenter throughout his life, and met the love of his life, Paula Velasquez. They were married on April 16, 1939 and remained happily married for sixty-five years. He is survived by his children Ernesto, Jr. (Janet), Esperanza Arredondo (Armando), Sylvia Romero (Raul) and Joe (Angela); grandchildren: Mark, Gregory, Lauren, Patricia, Dolores, Natalie, Raul Jr., Adriana, Joseph and Deborah; fourteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and daughter Maria Augustina; as the youngest of his family, he was also preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters. Ernesto enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. He truly loved God, his family, and his work. He always had a smile for everyone he met. The family will receive friends at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral procession will depart the funeral home 9:30 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2013 to celebrate a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II. The family would like to extend their heartfelt love and gratitude to Lucy Flores, Blanca DeLeon, Susie Costello and Stefanie Gilliam for their excellent care for our father.
