Our Condolences to the entire family of Fernando Contreras: I haven't seen Fernando for at least 23 years or longer but, Fernando Contreras was someone who went beyond the call of duty as a professor, mentor and friend. He will be missed but never forgotten. He was always looking to say something that could put a smile on your face. He always managed to get you to laugh till you cried from laughing so hard. Thank you Fernando for being there for me and for sharing a small part of your life with me and my family. You Taught Me So Much, i will always appreciate and love you for that. I haven't forgotten all your kind deeds to me as a struggling student. But your efforts kept me in school. thanks Fern, so glad you were born, we'll see you on the other side.

Fernando was a wonderful man. He taught us so much about life and was extremely supportive. He will forever have a special place in our hearts.  He came into our lives when we were only 3 & 5 yrs old and not many men would have taken on the challenge, but he did. We are very blessed that he had a part in raising us. We couldn't have asked for a better person to be such a major part of our lives. We will always love him and we will truly miss him. We'd like to send our condolences out to the rest of his family. You are in our prayers.

So long old buddy! I feel like I lost a big brother. We had many fun times at St. Mary's, politics and Somerset ISD. You are up there opening a lemonade stand with Dr. George Benz and teaching economics in heaven! You will be missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Fernando, I always called him Mr. Contreras out of respect. We worked in the Somerset ISD business office. He was a great person and a good friend. He had great work ethics. My condolences to all his family. God Bless you all!

 Our thoughts and prayers are with my Aunt Fara, Denise, Linda and his children. My cousin Fernando was a wonderful individual. He gave his heart to the community, was a great teacher, a loving son and father. He had a great laugh, Big Smile, and a loving person to all, especially a loving cousin. I will miss him very much. It was an honor to have him a family member. Our hearts goes out to his family for their love one who is at peace.

My sincerest sympathy to all of Ferds family for the untimely passing of a very fine young man.  He was always smiling in spite of his failing health and when I asked how he could keep it up, he would always smile and say "Aunt Kathy, life is just too short to take myself seriously".  And so he will always be remembered in my heart as a loving,giving individual to always make me smile and not to take myself very seriously.

I wish I had had more opportunities to visit with Fernando, but I appreciate all his help and especially his friendship with my brother John Navarro. He will be sorely missed! My sincere condolences to his family.

I only knew Fernando as a colleague at Palo Alto College.  What a presence that man was, both learned and spontaneous of wit and humor.  It was never the same place after he left, he was missed terribly!  I read of his death with sorrow, and pray that God will rest his soul and comfort his family.

He was  good man. In a time where friendships come and go --Fernando's friendship was a step into the past where a simple handshake and nod of the head meant he was your friend. He had a Marianist education from St Mary's  which focused his Economic Theory on how to use it for the common good and to teach people to fish for themselves. We have lost a straight shooter who would never ever play politics when it came to telling it the way it is in regards to Democratic Politics. Rest in Peace my friend you have left a great legacy.

Frenando was a great democrate.  He will be missed by the party.

It is with great difficulty that I acknowledge the passing of my dear friend Fernando.  For the past several years we had come to be very close and we shared a bond that saw us visiting each other almost every other day.  My deepest sympathy to all his family especially his children, who I believe he had the greatest love.  I find it tragic that he is gone, in spite of all the labor his existence required of him, because he was a fighter and he had a powerful will to live.  He had hopes and dreams for himself and his children and I hope that they will live on.  I can never forget him.

Fernando Contreras was not only my brother-in-law, but a good friend.  He was always cheerful, and working to help others in spite of his own illness, and the difficulties his illness presented.  He loved teaching, and his years at St. Mary's University, and in the Alamo Community College District, were some of his happiest memories. He also enjoyed his time in purchasing for one of the local school districts.  Family was very important to him, he was very proud of his children, and was looking forward to seeing his grandson graduate from the University of Incarnate Word this December. He was active in the Bexar County Democratic party, including past terms as Treasurer, and as a Precinct Captain.  His life was devoted to service to others.  I will miss him very much.
