Mrs. Castro was a lifelong resident of San Antonio. She was only able to obtain a 3rd grade education. After which she helped parents run their small business. Even though she never completed formal education Mom was a hard worker and was employed with S.H. Kress on Houston, St. for 30 years where she worked as waitress at the bakery counter and grill. Many customers would always compliment her on her customer service and how she was always well dressed and with a perfectly coiffed hair style. Mom loved her work and her customers. Once she retired, she enjoyed working on her home, flower and vegetable gardens and loved working on her well manicured yard. Mom was a good and honest woman, a generous woman, a feisty woman, a woman of integrity and above all was most humble. Mom, Grand-Ma, GG, is missed by her family and the many friends whose lives she touched.
Mom is preceded in death by her parents, Ysidro and Ana Maria Escobedo, her husband Ralph F. Castro, daughter Maria Cristina Ramos, brother Thomas Escobedo, and sisters, Eustolia Villarreal and Petra Mireles.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Corona and husband Juan Jose; son-in-law James Ramos; sons, Jose Fortu0na and wife Adrienne, Gilbert Castro and wife Terri; grandsons, John David Vasquez and wife Tina, John Joseph Corona, Gilbert John Castro, and wife Ashley, Jose H. Fortuna and life companion Joe Anaya and Christopher James Ramos; granddaughters, Nicolette Ramos-Geigenmiller and husband William, Melissa Ramos and husband Eric, Amanda Jo Fortuna-Golden and husband Kevin, and Yvette Smith and husband Thomas; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
On behalf of the family, a special thanks to the staff at Mesa Vista Health Inn for taking care of our Mom for the last three years of her life. The “feisty one” kept you all on the ball!
