OBITUARY

Florinda E Castro

October 26, 1925November 28, 2019

Florinda E. Castro, born on October 26, 1925 in Gonzales, Texas entered eternal rest at the age of 94 on the Day of Thanksgiving November 28, 2019.

Mrs. Castro was a lifelong resident of San Antonio. She was only able to obtain a 3rd grade education. After which she helped parents run their small business. Even though she never completed formal education Mom was a hard worker and was employed with S.H. Kress on Houston, St. for 30 years where she worked as waitress at the bakery counter and grill. Many customers would always compliment her on her customer service and how she was always well dressed and with a perfectly coiffed hair style. Mom loved her work and her customers. Once she retired, she enjoyed working on her home, flower and vegetable gardens and loved working on her well manicured yard. Mom was a good and honest woman, a generous woman, a feisty woman, a woman of integrity and above all was most humble. Mom, Grand-Ma, GG, is missed by her family and the many friends whose lives she touched.

Mom is preceded in death by her parents, Ysidro and Ana Maria Escobedo, her husband Ralph F. Castro, daughter Maria Cristina Ramos, brother Thomas Escobedo, and sisters, Eustolia Villarreal and Petra Mireles.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Elizabeth Corona and husband Juan Jose; son-in-law James Ramos; sons, Jose Fortuna and wife Adrienne, Gilbert Castro and wife Terri; grandsons, John David Vasquez and wife Tina, John Joseph Corona, Gilbert John Castro, and wife Ashley, Jose H. Fortuna and life companion Joe Anaya and Christopher James Ramos; granddaughters, Nicolette Ramos-Geigenmiller and husband William, Melissa Ramos and husband Eric,  Amanda Jo Fortuna-Golden and husband Kevin, and Yvette Smith and husband Thomas; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

On behalf of the family, a special thanks to the staff at Mesa Vista Health Inn for taking care of our Mom for the last three years of her life. The “feisty one” kept you all on the ball! A special thank you to the Altus Hospice staff for their support, understanding and immediate response when called upon in our time of need. A deep appreciation, to Denise, your support and determination in working to provide Mom peace and comfort during her last days on this earth will never be forgotten.

The family will be receiving friends for a Visitation on Tuesday, December 10 at Roy Akers Funeral Home – 515 N. Main Ave. – from 5 PM to 9 PM, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 PM. A Funeral Procession will depart from the funeral home at 8:30AM on Wednesday, December 11 and arrive at Holy Family Catholic Church – 152 Florencia Ave. TX 78228 – for a Mass at 9 AM. Burial at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery – 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd. 78209 – will follow at the conclusion of the service at 10:30 AM at Shelter #3.

My sincere condolences to her family.
I met Florinda, mi "tocaya" where she was living last year at Mesa Vista Health Inn, where one of my aunts, Minerva Garza is living. She visited with my two sisters, our aunt and myself.
We talked about she and I having the same name which is not very common. We called each other "mi tocaya"! We enjoyed a good laugh over that!

Joe Fortuna (your family) and all the Castro families,
Our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts, love and prayers are with all of you at this time. Know she is in your hearts and memories and she is watching over you always.
I remember your mom well and she always had a smile on her face. When she would walk by our house sometimes would stop and talk to my mom or to me if we were outside.
You all stay strong and have faith. You have family and friends who are there for you at this time.
Take care and Bless you all,
The Posada Family (Vicky, Victor and Fernando)
