

Gene Brackett, 81, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on October 21, 2024. Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on November 29, 1942, Gene was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and brother who made a lasting impact on those around him.
Gene served two tours in the Air Force for a total of 10 years as an aircraft mechanic, including assignments in Vietnam during the War and Germany. He earned his GED while in the service and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Utah State University. For the remainder of his civilian career, he dedicated over 30 years to civil service with the Air Force. Throughout his career in contract pricing, he traveled the world for work, visiting many countries, including Saudi Arabia and Taiwan.
An avid golfer, Gene could frequently be found on a fairway. A rarity in this day and age, he was a skillful handyman who could fix just about anything. He also enjoyed bowling and snow skiing in earlier times. He traveled for leisure as well, creating wonderful memories with his family in various tropical locations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Evelyn Brackett; his sister, Judy Fralix; his nephews, Michael and Aaron Woodard; and his uncle and cousin by marriage Robert and Steven Wied. Gene leaves behind his loving wife of 40+ years, Deborah (Debbie) Brackett; his brother, Jerry Brackett; his brother-in-law, Robert Fralix; his son, Aaron Brackett (wife Julie); and his daughter, Elizabeth (Liz) Brackett (husband Brent), as well as his beloved grandsons Ryan, Eli, and Roman. He also leaves behind his nieces Cheryl Kennedy (husband Travis) and Lynn Wilson (husband James), mother-in-law Charlene Bryan, brother-in-law Ronald Bryan, and aunt, cousin, and cousin-in-law (by marriage) Marge Martin (husband Jack), Lisa, and Krystal.
Those who knew Gene will remember his generous spirit and willingness to help others.
Services will be held on November 6, 2024, at Funeraria del Angel Roy Akers (515 North Main Avenue, San Antonio, Texas 78205) with visitation from 10am-12pm, memorial service at 12pm, and military honors at Fort Sam Houston at 1:45pm.
