Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend
Veteran of the Korean War
May 8, 1933 - September 15, 2017
Gilbert G Robles, age 84, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 15, 2017 at the home in which he lived for more than 50 years with his wife, Leonila Robles by his side. His peaceful passing was a gift from his gracious God who he loved and served. His tattered Bible revealed to us that the following was a favorite passage in the Bible.
Mas el fruto del Espíritu es amor, gozo, paz, paciencia, benignidad, bondad, fidelidad, mansedumbre, dominio propio; contra tales cosas no hay ley
Galatians 5:22-23
His life was a true reflection of the gifts of the spirit. He was a faithful member at La Trinidad Assembly of God since 1980.
Gilbert graduated from Sidney Lanier High School Class of 1951 and then went to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. Upon his return, he made his living at the San Antonio Light Newspaper where he worked and retired in 1992. Gilbert was a passionate golfer who enjoyed his weekly golf game and golf buddies. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs. He was a true family man in every sense of the word. Enjoying the company of his children and grandchildren as often as possible. Gilbert fell in love and married Leonila and in April they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.
Gilbert was extremely loving and proud of his two daughters, Cecilia and Diana.
Cecilia Robles Sanchez, mother to Zachary Lee Sanchez who is currently serving in the US Marine Corps and will be able to unite with the family for the graveside service. Zachary Lee and his wife, Emily are parents to his first great grandchild, Phoenix Lee Sanchez.
Diana Robles Vazquez and her husband of 21 years, Eduardo, have four children. Evelyn who is in her second year of college, Twins Isaac and Isaiah are in the 6th grade and Lilliana, age 7. All living here in San Antonio Texas a true blessing for Leonila and Gilbert.
Gilbert may have began to think about his homecoming in Heaven because we found among his personal items a note for his grandchildren which reads:
Even when my grandchildren are not in my arms, on my lap or in my home, they are in my heart and there they will stay forever.
Gilbert is survived by his two brothers, Arthur and Fernando. Arthur G Robles married to Mary Robles and Fernando O Rodriguez married to Carolina Rodriguez. As well as his many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
