Gilbert Buenrostro Tamez

Born on May 23, 1952, Gilbert lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Mary Helen Tamez, and their daughters Monica Zayas, Karen Nicole Tamez, Rebecca Santillan, and Alicia Tamez as well as his son in law Jorge Santillan and his daughter in law Vanessa Penaloza. Gilbert’s legacy continues through his grandchildren Jorge Santillan Jr, Jacklyn Santillan, Aaron Santillan, Emma Santillan, Lily Santillan, Brianna Ferrer, Carlos Joel Zayas Jr. (CJ), Justin Zayas, and Jorge Rosario, as well as his six great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.

Gilbert is also survived by his siblings Bobby Tamez, Raymond Tamez, Sally Peña, Jesse Tamez, Rosalinda Alatorre, and Sylvia Guerrero, along with countless extended family members and lifelong friends who will miss him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leopoldo and Celia Tamez; his siblings Leo Tamez and Gloria Ramirez; his grandson Gavin Santillan; and his son-in-law Carlos Zayas.

Gilbert had a passion for life and a heart full of warmth. He was a proud Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs fan, and he loved fishing, cooking, listening to music, dancing, and relaxing while watching The View. His sense of humor, strong presence, and unwavering love for his family will never be forgotten.

Gilbert’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A visitation for Gilbert will be held Thursday, August 14, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, TX 78205, followed by a rosary from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
